Actor Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the "Star Wars" films, took issue with his image being used by a Republican senator this week to poke fun at the Green New Deal.
On Tuesday, Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, delivered a speech on the Senate floor in which he blasted the Green New Deal, a controversial piece of environmental legislation. His presentation included several visuals, including a blown-up image of Luke Skywalker sitting on a tauntaun, a snow lizard species found in the Star Wars universe.
"Not only are tauntauns carbon-neutral, but according to one report 'a long time ago' and 'far, far away,' they may even be fully recyclable for their warmth on especially cold nights," Lee said.
Hamill was not pleased to see his likeness used in such a way.
"I was foolish to think this was photoshopped. Had I recognized that this guy was a Republican, I would have instantly realized this was his argument against Global Warming. ❄️🌨️☃️ #CongressSmellsBadOnTheInside," Hamill wrote on Twitter.
In another tweet, Hamill wrote, "Dena @DrDenaGrayson, I did see that crap. Don't worry about it! I'm using an oversized photo of @SenMikeLee as a prop to push my #MAGA (#MoronsAlwaysGaslightAmericans) #TrustTheScientists agenda.😛 #ClimateChange"
Republicans have trashed the Green New Deal, which proposes radical changes to how Americans live their lives over the next decade.
