President Donald Trump has indicated he would not have reservations in bringing Gen. Michael Flynn back into the administration, and Vice President Mike Pence said he would be "happy to see" Flynn again.
"I think Gen. Michael Flynn is an American patriot," Pence told Axios on HBO in an interview set to air Monday night. "He served this country with great distinction in uniform, and now I believe the decision by the Justice Department lays bare what was clearly prosecutorial abuse, and for my part, I'd be happy to see Michael Flynn again."
The Justice Department announced the case against Flynn's one count of lying to federal investigators has been dropped over an attempt by the FBI to potentially entrap him on a process crime.
Pence was among the individuals Flynn had lied to when asked about contacts with then-Russian Amb. Sergey Kislyak, which ultimately led to Flynn's firing as Trump's first national security adviser just days into the administration in 2017.
Attorney General William Barr dropped the case against Flynn for lying to federal investigators about Russian contacts because the work in the transition team was not a crime and the lie was generated from prosecutorial misconduct.
Legal scholar Alan Dershowitz called it a "perjury trap" in a Newsmax TV appearance Saturday.
