President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Monday to rebuff criticisms that Vice President Mike Pence's walking out of an NFL game Sunday was political grandstanding on the part of the White House.

Pence, the former governor of Indiana, went to see his home team, the Indianapolis Colts, play the 49ers and also to see former Colts great Peyton Manning have his jersey retired.

But Pence left the game after a host of players on the 49ers team took a knee during the national anthem.
