Mitt Romney flatly dismissed President Barack Obama's State of the Union address Tuesday night as "disappointing," saying it showed off more politics than leadership.
In a blistering Facebook post, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee — now considering another possible run at the White House in 2016
— said Obama missed the mark with Congress and the American public.
"True to form, the president in his State of the Union speech is more interested in politics than in leadership," he wrote. "More intent on winning elections than on winning progress, he ignores the fact that the country has elected a Congress that favors smaller government and lower taxes."
"Rather than bridging the gap between the parties, he makes 'bridge to nowhere' proposals. Disappointing. A missed opportunity to lead," he added.
The former Massachusetts governor took specific aim on the president's plan to lower taxes for middle class families by seeking to raise capital gain taxes.
"His tax proposal is a maze of new taxes and complexities," Romney writes. "The best way to lower the tax burden on all American families is straightforward: lower rates and simplify the tax code."
