Nikki Haley, the former governor of South Carolina-turned-U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, has made Gallup’s list of the world’s most admired women of 2017 — joining such luminaries as Beyoncé and Queen Elizabeth.
The public opinion poll’s survey of 1,049 adults conducted Dec. 4-11, 2017 had Haley, who made history as South Carolina’s first female governor, in ninth place.
It’s the first time the 45-year-old Indian American has made the list and not exactly a surprise given how her political star has skyrocketed since her nomination in November 2016 for the position of ambassador by then President-elect Donald Trump.
In order, this year’s most admired women are: Hillary Clinton, Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Elizabeth Warren, Angela Merkel, Queen Elizabeth II, Condoleezza Rice, Melania Trump, Nikki Haley, Duchess Kate Middleton and Beyoncé Knowles.
It’s the 16th consecutive year Clinton has been the most admired woman.
