CNN: No GOP Healthcare Consensus Before Spring Break

There is reportedly no deal in place that would allow the House GOP's Obamacare replacement bill to pass in a full chamber vote, which means lawmakers will leave Washington for a two-week break Thursday without an agreement.

CNN cites a source in President Donald Trump's administration and two senior Republican aides on Capitol Hill who said the discussions around the American Health Care Act have not yet led to an agreement between everyone involved.

Congress will go on a two-week spring break starting Thursday.

Ever since opposition from the House Freedom Caucus ultimately led to House Speaker Paul Ryan postponing a scheduled vote on the AHCA two weeks ago, Republican leaders — including Trump himself — have been working behind the scenes to drum up support for the bill that has created a rift in the Republican Party.

Those talks, it seems, have not yet been fruitful enough to secure proper support to pass the legislation and toss it over to the Senate.

Vice President Mike Pence met with several Republican officials Tuesday night to discuss the healthcare bill. One source told CNN the GOP is "no closer to a final deal than we were 24 hours ago, and actually, quite possibly further away than we've ever been."

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Kevin Brady said Tuesday's meeting was a productive one.

Calling the session a "positive, thoughtful discussion," the Texas Republican said, "our first focus was, can you lower premiums over the next several years for those trapped in Obamacare? Can you preserve patient protections but give states more accountability on how they design it to lower healthcare costs? Every state is unique. That is where most of the discussion was."
