The National Rifle Association launched a television campaign on Tuesday urging the confirmation of Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court by targeting four Senate Democrats who are seen as facing difficult reelections next year, the Washington Examiner reported.

The NRA said that the $1 million campaign will concentrate on Sens. Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Jon Tester of Montana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Donnelly of Indiana.

Breitbart points out that President Donald Trump won all of those states, which means that the pressure on the Democratic senators running for reelection in those places in 2018 is expected to be intense.

"Judge Gorsuch has an impressive record that demonstrates his support for the Second Amendment," Chris Cox, NRA-ILA executive director, told the Examiner. "The NRA will activate our five million members and tens of millions of supporters to urge their senators to listen to the will of their constituents and vote to confirm Judge Gorsuch.

"He will protect our right to keep and bear arms and is an outstanding choice to fill Justice Scalia's seat."

Each of the ads quotes the senators "talking a good game" on protecting gun rights, but then demands that they keep their promises.

In addition to the television advertisements, the NRA campaign will also include making calls to voters urging them to pressure their senators on the issue and by sending out mailers promoting Gorsuch.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has promised a filibuster on the confirmation vote, which can only be beaten if eight Democrats defy their party and vote for Gorsuch. However, if the filibuster is successful, Republicans have vowed to change the voting rules by making a simple majority enough to confirm the judge. Republican have 52 seats in the Senate.
