Former President Barack Obama said that political leaders must welcome “new blood,” and make a “commitment to human dignity,” in remarks at a private reception in Hawaii, the Honolulu Civil Beat reports.
Obama gave a speech to guests of the Obama Foundation and community leaders at the East-West Center in Honolulu, Hawaii on Sunday. In his remarks, the former president decried that “People cling to power instead of seeing the power in other people,” and said that the country has “a deficit of leadership, and we need new blood.”
According to The Hill, his remarks commemorated the inaugural program and workshop organized by the Obama Foundation in Hawaii, where Obama grew up, to help the next generation of Hawaiian leaders "so that they have the platform, the opportunity to channel their amazing energy and passion and imagination, in order to bring a whole new set of eyes and ideas and possibilities to the world."
He added, "We are, once again, going to change the world for the better.”
