President Barack Obama's travel expenses during his presidency cost taxpayers close to $97 million, according to documents the Secret Service and the Air Force provided to Judicial Watch.
Some of the expenditures in the $96,938,882.51 total:
- April 22, 2015: trip to Florida Everglades to give a speech about global warming: $1,012, 367.76.
- October 2015: fundraising trip to San Diego: $2,181,655.99.
- February 2016: Michelle Obama and daughters' ski trip to Aspen, Colorado: $222,875.58. Secret Service cost for that trip: $165,806.78.
- March 2016: trip to Cuba and Argentina: $7,146,015.18.
- June 2016: Michelle Obama and daughters' trip Morocco, Spain, and Liberia: $450,026.40.
- July 2016: for Hillary Clinton to accompany Obama on North Carolina campaign trip: $360,236.
- August 2016: Vacation to Martha's Vineyard: $450,295 in flight expenses.
Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton wrote, "The Obamas' notorious abuse of presidential travel perks wasted military resources and stressed the Secret Service. Judicial Watch estimates that the final costs of Obama's unnecessary vacation and political travel will well exceed $100 million. President-elect Trump can immediately save taxpayers money by reforming presidential travel."
