House Speaker Paul Ryan defended the use of prayer after mass shootings, because "prayer works."
Ryan took aim at critics who reject those who offer prayer after mass shootings. "It’s disappointing. It’s sad and this is what you’ll get from the far secular left. People who do not have faith don’t understand faith, I guess I’d have to say," Ryan said on Fox News’ "Ingraham Angle" on Monday.
"It is the right thing to do, is to pray in moments like this because you know what? Prayer works," Ryan said.
"I know you believe that and I believe that," the speaker told host Laura Ingraham.
Ryan posted on Twitter after the Texas church shooting, saying "The people of Sutherland Springs need our prayers right now."
"When you hear the secular left doing this thing, no wonder you’ve got so much polarization and disunity in this country, when people think like that," Ryan added during the Ingraham interview.
Ingraham rebuked some celebrities’ critiques of prayer, such as author Stephen King saying, "Enough with the prayin’, time to start legislatin’." Those celebrities showed their "elite hostility to people of faith," Ingraham said, according to Fox News Insider.
