Former Vice President Joe Biden and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders are Democratic voters’ top two choices to run for president in 2020, according to a new poll from Politico and Morning Consult.
Biden drew just over a quarter of respondents in the poll of over 700 registered Democrats, Sanders just under one-fifth, and Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke came in third with under 10 percent, with over 20 percent undecided or having no opinion at this time.
- Biden: 26 percent
- Sanders: 19 percent
- O’Rourke: 8 percent.
- Mass. Sen. Elizabeth Warren: 5 percent
- Calif. Sen. Kamala Harris: 4 percent
- N.J. Sen. Cory Booker: 3 percent
“While Biden and Sanders are seen to represent different ideological poles for the left, the survey suggests that’s not top of mind for voters when thinking about 2020,” writes Morning Consult’s Eli Yokley. “A 35 percent plurality of voters who preferred Sanders said they’d opt for the less liberal former Delaware senator as a second choice, and 33 percent of Biden first-choicers said they’d back the democratic socialist firebrand from Vermont second.”
Morning Consult surveyed 733 Democratic voters from Nov. 7-9, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
