Most Americans agree that the country has become more divided since President Donald Trump took office, according to a new poll from USA Today and Suffolk University Poll.

In a survey of 1,000 registered voters, 78 percent said that the country has become more divided under Trump, with only 11 percent disagreeing.

"It's the framework for gridlock," said Suffolk University Political Research Center director David Paleologos, who added that “passionate partisans” disagree on “virtually every issue.”

Members of the GOP would prefer to see Congress focus on finding ways to reduce illegal immigration and building Trump’s wall on the southwest border, at 61 percent. Democrats are looking for action on healthcare, at 37 percent, and investigating Trump and his administration, at just over 20 percent.

Most Americans, 66 percent, think Trump will see out his first term in office, with only 27 percent disagreeing. Republicans almost universally think he will complete his term at 93 percent, while Democrats are split – 52 percent think he will, 39 percent think he won’t.

Suffolk polled 1,000 registered voters across the country by phone from Dec. 11 to 16, with a margin of error of  plus or minus 3 percentage points.
