Poll: Trump Approval Rating Climbs to 40 Percent

President Donald Trump's approval rating climbed 2 points to the 40-percent plateau for the first time since May, according to Gallup's weekly snapshot.

Trump's approval rating was 38 percent last week, according to Gallup. Trump boasted a 41 percent approval rating in May 2017.

The results, according to Gallup:

  • 40 percent approve of Trump's performance.
  • 57 percent disapprove of Trump's performance.
  • 33 percent of Independents approve of Trump's performance.

Further, 90 percent of Republicans approve of Trump, the highest support from his own party since taking office last year. That jumped 3 points since before Trump's first State of the Union address last week.

Results for this Gallup poll are based on interviews conducted Jan. 29-Feb. 4 with a random sample of 2,228 adults, aged 18 and older, living in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. The margin of sampling error is 3 percentage points at the 95 percent confidence level.
