Only 37% of voters support beginning impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, a new Politico/Morning Consult poll indicates.
Fifty percent oppose the start of proceedings and 12% are undecided, according to the poll.
Highlights of the poll, released Wednesday:
- 6% of Republicans say Congress should begin impeachment proceedings, compared to 88% who oppose the proceedings. 6% had no opinion.
- 70% of Democrats favor impeachment proceedings, while 18% oppose them. 12% were undecided.
- 31% of independents support impeachment proceedings, compared to 50% who oppose the proceedings. 19% had no opinion.
- 43% approve of the job Trump is doing in office, while 53% disapprove
- 37% say they would probably or definitely vote to re-elect Trump, compared to 53% who say they would probably or definitely vote for someone else. 3% say they would not vote.
The poll, conducted Sept. 13-15, surveyed 1,994 registered voters. The margin of error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
