Seven out of ten Republicans believe that opinion polls are skewed to favor President Barack Obama over challenger Mitt Romney, a new poll shows.
And 42 percent of voters as a whole believe they are biased to the president while only 40 percent say they are not, according to the survey for the
left-leaning Daily Kos website.
In recent weeks Republicans have started to complain that the major polling companies are weighting their results to favor Obama, a position the pollsters all deny. One website, unskewedpolls.com claims to take the bias out, giving Romney the lead in most surveys.
Scott Rasmussen of Rasmussen Reports told Newsmax on Monday, "There is not a pollster in the country, not a public pollster, not a legitimate pollster anywhere, who was deliberately skewing the polls."
But that has not convinced the voters, according to the Daily Kos poll, which was conducted by Public Policy Polling (PPP).
The survey showed that 71 percent of Republicans, and 84 percent of those who identified themselves as tea party followers, believe that polling companies are skewing their results to help Obama. Just 14 percent of Democrats said the same.
The poll gave Obama a four percentage point lead, 49 percent to 45 percent, over Romney.
