A prosecutor in California is being investigated for making derogatory comments about Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., former first lady Michelle Obama, and others.
Michael Selyem heads the Hardcore Gang Unit at the San Bernardino County District Attorney's Office. He is now on administrative leave as officials look into statements he is accused of making online.
"Being a loud-mouthed [expletive] in the ghetto you would think someone would have shot this [expletive] by now," Selyem wrote on Facebook in response to Waters' call to liberals to "harass" members of the Trump administration.
According to the San Bernardino Sun, Selyem also made a derogatory remark about Obama. Further, he criticized a person who was shot by the police during an online discussion with another reader.
"That [expletive] got exactly what he deserved," he wrote, according to the Sun. "You reap what you sow. And by the way go fyourself you liberal [expletive]."
According to The Washington Post, Selyem allegedly wrote in the comments section of a news article, "I am all for white males immigrating here legally and starting a business. It is the terrorist a****** sneaking in here wanting to kill me an[d] my family that I am opposed to."
He also posted an image of a man wearing a sombrero that contained this caption: "Mexican word of the day: Hide."
The comments have led to an internal investigation at the DA's office. There was no word on whether Selyem will lose his job, but several groups have already called for that to happen.
