MSNBC "Morning Joe" talk show host Joe Scarborough slammed President Donald Trump over his response to the hurricane recovery efforts under way in Puerto Rico, The Hill reported Saturday.
Trump on Saturday criticized Carmen Yulín Cruz, the mayor of San Juan, and others for "poor leadership" in the wake of storms that devastated the islands. He maintained Puerto Ricans "want everything to be done for them when it should be a community effort," the president tweeted.
But, as the finger pointing began to play out, Scarborough claimed it was Trump who was guilty of "poor leadership."
Trump is spending the weekend at his golf club in Bedminster, N.J., and is slated to hold a series of phone calls regarding the hurricane response, including calls to Puerto Rico's Gov. Ricardo Rosselló and resident commissioner Jenniffer González-Colón.
San Juan's mayor held a news conference on Friday where she demanded more assistance and said, "We are dying, and you are killing us with the inefficiency and the bureaucracy."
"So, I am done being polite. I am done being politically correct. I am mad as hell," she added.
Trump is expected to visit Puerto Rico on Tuesday with first lady Melania. At least 16 people have reportedly died as a result of the hurricane, a number that's expected to rise as recovery efforts continue.
