Public support for the GOP's healthcare bill stands at just 20 percent in a new poll.
Results from the latest Quinnipiac University national poll of American voters include:
- 20 percent approve of the American Health Care Act, while 57 percent disapprove of it.
- 44 percent said they are less likely to vote for a senator or a member of congress who backs the AHCA.
- 32 percent said they approve of the way President Donald Trump is handing healthcare, with 62 percent in disapproval.
- 45 percent said Trump should support the repeal of Obamacare, while 50 percent said the opposite.
- 19 percent said Trump and Republican lawmakers should repeal all of Obamacare, while 48 percent said they should repeal parts of the federal healthcare law.
- 57 percent said fewer Americans would be covered under the American Health Care Act.
The House passed the AHCA earlier this month. Lawmakers in the Senate have vowed to change the bill before they bring it up for a chamber vote.
The Congressional Budget Office announced this week the AHCA would result in an estimated 23 million Americans losing healthcare coverage. It would, however, result in the deficit falling $119 billion between 2017 and 2026.
