Forty-seven percent of likely voters say they would cast their ballot for the Republican congressional candidate, while 43% say they would vote Democrat, according to a new poll by Rasmussen Reports.
The number is down from last week, when the poll showed a 48-41% lead by Republicans on the poll's generic ballot.
Here are the highlights from the poll released Friday:
- 85% of Republicans say they would vote for their own party's congressional candidate, compared to 12% who would cast a ballot for the Democrat.
- 82% of Democrats say they would vote for the Democrats' congressional candidate and 14% would support the Republican.
- 42% of independents say they would vote Republican in a congressional race, while 31% would cast their ballot for the Democrat.
- 53% of white voters say they would support the Republican congressional candidate, and 39% would vote for the Democrat.
- 21% of Black voters say they would vote for the Republican, compared to 61% who would back the Democrat.
The poll, conducted Oct. 16-20, surveyed 2,500 likely voters. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
