Rep. Crenshaw: Cohen Testimony Held at Wrong Time

Bringing President Donald Trump's former attorney Michael Cohen in for testimony while the president is engaged in talks with North Korean Chairman Kim Jong Un is not the right action to take, but it's not surprising, Rep. Dan Crenshaw said Wednesday.

"It shouldn't be a surprise that Democrats will do whatever it takes to undermine the credibility of the president," the Texas Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends." "I would urge them to understand this is not the time to do it. As Americans, we should all be happy there is some movement on the North Korean issue."

North Korea poses an "existential threat" to allies and to the United States, he added, as the country has developed missiles that can reach American shores.

"This should be a good thing," said Crenshaw, "and I wish they wouldn't be playing politics right now."

Crenshaw said that the Trump-Kim talks are a reason for optimism, as the two leaders are handling the negotiations themselves, rather than relying on professional negotiators.

The lawmaker also spoke about the issue at the southern border, noting that even though there have been questions about the numbers of immigrants reported, the numbers are still high.

"Three hundred thousand, is that a low number?" said Crenshaw. "I don't think anyone would agree that is a low number. That is an enormous number, 300,000 people coming across unimpeded. If there are places with border fencing, those numbers dropped significantly. We know one, we have an enormous problem and two, walls work. So let's support the president's emergency declaration."
