Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., is scheduled to be sworn in Friday evening at a private ceremony at his home, WITN television is reporting.
Jones was re-elected to Congress in November. However, he has been absent for months from Congress due to an unspecified illness, the television station said. Rep. G.K. Butterfield, D-N.C., who is scheduled to conduct the ceremony, said he expects Jones to return in a couple of weeks.
According to Roll Call, Jones missed every vote in November and December. It also reported he had missed nearly a quarter of all votes from July to September.
In December, a spokesman for Jones had said the congressman was “looking forward to getting back to the Capitol in January.”
