Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore said Wednesday that Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., should go back to Somalia after she ripped him as a "child molester" in attacking the Alabama Republican Party for endorsing her expulsion from Congress.
"I fully support the resolution of the Ala. Rep. Party asking Congress to expel Omar under Article 1 Section 5 of the U.S. Constitution," Moore said in a pair of Twitter posts. "President Trump was right, she should go back to Somalia from whence she came."
Moore, 72, who launched a bid to unseat Democratic Sen. Doug Jones in June, was referencing the "send her back" chant at a Trump 2020 campaign rally in North Carolina last month.
The president has since said he did not agree with the chant.
Earlier that week, Trump tweeted that Omar and three other first-term Democratic congresswomen — now known as the "squad" — should "go back" where they came from.
The representatives are American citizens, and three were born in the U.S.
Omar, 36, fled the war in Somalia with her parents. She arrived in America as a refugee in 1992 when she was 12 years old.
Moore, who also ripped Omar as an "avowed Muslim" and a "sworn enemy of Israel," tweeted after the legislator on Monday blasted a weekend resolution by Alabama's state GOP to get Congress to expel her.
"If you want to clean up politics, maybe don't nominate an accused child molester as your Senate candidate," she tweeted, apparently referencing allegations during the 2017 special election that Moore had groped and sought out sexual relationships with teenage girls in the 1970s.
Moore, who was in his 30s during the alleged incidents, has denied the accusations.
