The Russian lawyer involved in the controversial meeting with Trump campaign officials at Trump Tower has admitted she's a Kremlin operative, The New York Times reported Friday.

"I am a lawyer, and I am an informant. Since 2013, I have been actively communicating with the office of the Russian prosecutor general," Natalia V. Veselnitskaya told the newspaper.

Veselnitskaya, who was supposed to deliver damaging information about Hillary Clinton at that June 2016 powwow, long insisted she is a private attorney.

But the Times uncovered emails showing she "worked hand in glove with Russia’s chief legal office to thwart a Justice Department civil fraud case against a well-connected Russian firm."

Her confession to the Times adds a new wrinkle to questions about who she represented as she met at Trump Tower with Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort and others involved in the Trump campaign.

That meeting is one piece of the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller into Russian interference with the election.
