Paul Ryan: Obama's Second Term Marred by 'Arrogance of Power'

Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wisc., called the IRS's targeting of conservative groups “arrogance of power, abuse of power, to the nth degree.”

Appearing on "Fox News Sunday," the former vice presidential candidate said there is “credible evidence that donors were targeted, that the IRS leaked private information to the public, which served political purposes.”

To suggest the targeting was just a bureaucratic snafu is wrong, Ryan said.

"The other point I'd say, as bad as this is, the person in charge of this bureaucratic snafu has now been put in charge of Obamacare," he added.

Sarah Hall Ingram headed up the IRS division on tax-exempt status before being put in charge of implementing Obamacare. Ryan called Ingram's new appointment "rotten to the core."

"People deserve a government they can trust, that's honest, that's impartial, equality before the law, and that is not what we're getting here," Ryan said. "And so to try to suggest that this is just bureaucratic snafus, we already know that's not true."

Obama's second term already is showing arrogance and cronyism in practice, Ryan said. "And that is even uglier than big government in theory."

On another scandal front, Ryan declined to speculate whether the altered talking points on the Benghazi attack were intended to keep him and his presidential running mate Mitt Romney from winning the election.

I don’t know the answer to that question, so I’m not even going to speculate, but that’s what good oversight does, Ryan said.
