Huckabee: It's Not Like Trump Boiled Santa Girl's Rabbit

Mike Huckabee mocked the controversy over President Donald Trump's comments with a 7-year-old girl over whether she believed in Santa Claus, saying it was not as if Trump acted like a scorned lover in the 1987 movie "Fatal Attraction."

"It wasn't like he was boiling the little girl's bunny rabbit in a pot on the stove or something," the former Arkansas governor told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday.

"He asked a simple question. What is wrong with people?"

Trump's Christmas Day call with the little girl, Collman Lloyd, hit a nerve on social media after he asked her if she was "still a believer in Santa," adding to her "because at 7, it's marginal, right?"

"You can never find a way that President Trump will make some of the people in the press happy," Huckabee said. "It doesn't matter what he does. If he didn't make the call, if he didn't talk to the little girl, they'd say that he was curled up in a fetal position in the White House and that he was unwilling to come out and talk to anybody."

In the movie, actress Glenn Close's character seeks revenge on Michael Douglas' character after she is spurned, and among other actions decides to boil his daughter's pet rabbit.

Meanwhile, Donald Lloyd, the little girl's father, told BuzzFeed he thinks the public has overreacted to Trump's comment.

"I think it's crazy it became a big deal," he said. "It's Christmastime. I'd love to keep politics out of Christmas. It didn't bother me — I like to talk to my kids like adults."
