House Majority Whip Steve Scalise is in serious condition after undergoing another surgery Saturday following last week's shooting at the Congressional baseball practice where a man who was reportedly distraught over President Trump's election shot Scalise and three others

Scalise, the third ranking member of House Republican leadership, was shot in the hip Wednesday. He had his third surgery Saturday.

The gunman, James T. Hodgkinson, died in a shootout with police. He opened fire at the Republican congressional baseball team practice in Alexandria, Va. after asking another lawmaker whether the team practicing was a group of Republicans or Democrats.

"He is more responsive, and is speaking with loved ones," said the tweet sent from Scalise's account.

"The Scalise family greatly appreciates the outpouring of thoughts and prayers."
