Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, the co-hosts of MSNBC's "Morning Joe," got married in a secret ceremony over the weekend, Vanity Fair reported on Sunday.

The intimate ceremony was officiated by Rep. Elijah Cummings and attended by just a handful of people on Saturday in Washington's National Archives.

"We wanted it to be really small and simple and not what you expected from Mika and Joe," Brzezinski said. "Everything we do is exposed, and everything felt exposed every step of the way, so we want this to be private until it’s over."

Brzezinski explained to Vanity Fair why they held the wedding at the National Archives, where the Constitution, Declaration of Independence and Bill of Rights are displayed.

"We did an event there more than a year ago and we were just blown away, seeing all these documents and how we felt seeing them," Brzezinski said. "It makes sense now more than ever, given what we stand for as a couple, what we do for a living and what we’re worried about as a country."

Scarborough and Brzezinski have become high-profile Trump critics, harshly slamming the president and his administration on almost every episode of their show, according to The Hill.

Scarborough last year officially left the Republican Party, saying it had been “destroyed.”
