The Affordable Care Act and other unpopular Obama administration policies will help the GOP rally in the midterm elections, says Scott Rasmussen, co-founder of ESPN and president of Rasmussen Media Group.

"Clearly that [healthcare] law is having a big impact on this year's elections,'' Rasmussen, who recently founded the news website Styrk.com, said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show" on Newsmax TV.

"There's national security issues in play and there are other topics being discussed. The economy and the healthcare law have set the stage for the Republicans to have a very good year in 2014.

"And by the way, all that kicking the can down the road is going to create some real problems for whoever the Democratic nominee is in 2016."

Rasmussen believes it was mistake for the president to say that even though he's not running, his policies are on the ballot.

"That was the great short term gift of President Obama to Republicans. That's going to show up in all kinds of campaign ads," Rasmussen said.

"It's clearly the truth. That's what happens in midterm elections. The president is on the ballot even if his name formerly isn't there.

"But all of these Democrats in states like Louisiana, Arkansas and North Carolina have been trying to run away from the president saying 'No, no we're not his kind of Democrat,' and now President Obama has brought the issue right back close to home."
