President Donald Trump ad-libbed his controversial remarks blaming "many sides" for the violence in Charlottesville, Va., ABC News is reporting.
"Those were his own words," one senior White House official told the network news, stressing those words were "were not" scripted for him.
The Hill noted Trump was hit with a backlash following his statement in which he did not single out white supremacists for the violence.
"We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides — on many sides," Trump said Saturday.
He came back Monday and pointed the finger directly at the KKK, neo-Nazis, and other white supremacists for the violence.
But ABC noted his earlier comments were the second time in recent weeks, Trump has gone off script and created a stir.
The network news said his remarks North Korean leader Kim Jong Un would be met with "fire and fury" if he continued to threatened the U.S. were not pre-approved by his national security team.
