A 48-year-old Washington man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly threatening to kill Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., the leader of the House Progressive Caucus.

The law enforcement incident statement reads: "Seattle police arrested the man outside Jayapal's house at 11:25 p.m. Saturday after she called 911 and reported an unknown person or people were in a vehicle using obscene language, a probable cause statement said. She told a dispatcher her husband thought someone may have fired a pellet gun."

As officers responded, the suspect, Brett Forsell, was reportedly standing in the street with his hands in the air, while holstering a gun at his waist.

In a police statement taken from a neighbor, the suspect could be heard yelling, "Go back to India. I'm going to kill you."

Forsell also reportedly drove his vehicle by Jayapal's home on numerous occasions, yelling profanities out the window.

After being read his Miranda rights, Forsell reportedly told police he had planned to pitch a tent on Jayapal's property.

In its post-arrest statement, the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office said the bail for Forsell was set at $500,000, similar to other cases for armed threats to kill and hate crimes.

However, the ruling judge denied the office's request for a criminal harassment protection order for Jayapal.

The King County prosecuting office also expects documents for charges to be sent on Wednesday afternoon, and Forsell is expected to remain in jail, according to the statement.

The investigation remains open with the Seattle Police Department.

A statement from Jayapal's office confirmed an incident occurred at the congresswoman's home near Seattle. It also said Jayapal and her family were safe, and that she appreciated the well-wishes from her constituents.

"[Congresswoman Jayapal] is very grateful for the swift and professional response from the Seattle Police Department, the US Capitol Police, and the FBI investigators who are working together diligently on the investigation, and ensuring that she and her family stay safe," the statement reads.

"Because this is an ongoing investigation, she will not be commenting further at this time."
