The Secret Service said it is taking "appropriate action" after one of its agents said she would not want to take "a bullet" to defend President Donald Trump.
CNN reported the Secret Service action came after Kerry O'Grady, a senior agent in the Denver field office, posted on Facebook during the presidential campaign that she supported Hillary Clinton and would not honor a law that forbids agents from airing their political beliefs.
The Washington Examiner said that in one Facebook post written by O'Grady in October, she endorsed Clinton and said she would endure "jail time" rather than "taking a bullet" for what she claimed was a "disaster" for America.
"As a public servant for nearly 23 years, I struggle not to violate the Hatch Act," she wrote. "So I keep quiet and skirt the median. To do otherwise can be a criminal offense for those in my position. Despite the fact that I am expected to take a bullet for both sides.
"But this world has changed and I have changed. And I would take jail time over a bullet or an endorsement for what I believe to be disaster to this country and the strong and amazing women and minorities who reside here. Hatch Act be damned. I am with Her."
The posts, which have since been deleted, never mentioned Trump by name, but clearly referred to him, the Examiner noted.
But, according to CNN, the Secret Service said it was "aware of the posting and the agency is taking quick and appropriate action."
"All Secret Service agents and employees are held to the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct," the agency said in a statement. "Any allegations of misconduct are taken seriously and swiftly investigated."
