Hours after Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, announced his retirement at year's end, former presidential candidate Mitt Romney conspicuously updated his Twitter account profile to reflect his location as Holladay, Utah, a potential sign a 2018 run for the Senate seat will come for the ex-Massachusetts governor.

Romney has been considering a 2018 run in Utah if Hatch retires, but as Hatch announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election to an eighth term, Romney merely praised Hatch while staying quiet about his own plans.

Romney posted on Facebook: "Hatch has represented the interests of Utah with distinction and honor."

Romney served as governor of Massachusetts for one term and was the Republican Party's nominee for president in 2012.
