NBC Broadcasts in 'Shadow of the Statue of Liberty' Monday

Monday, 30 January 2017 08:58 PM EST ET

NBC News broadcast its Monday night newscast at Liberty State Park, where anchor Lester Holt explained programming would focus on President Donald Trump's immigration order and be "coming to you from the shadow of the Statue of Liberty."

The location for the "NBC Nightly News" was selected because "in many ways, it's become a symbol of a country right now wrestling to reconcile its creed vs. its security needs," he said.

"So, yes, with much debate going on about the president's U.S. entry ban on refugees and individuals from seven predominantly Muslim nations, the newscast decided the symbolism of the Statue of Liberty was of particular relevance."

Holt then told viewers the special edition would be "coming to you from the shadow of the Statue of Liberty."
