Hold tight! Those stimulus checks President Donald Trump has been promising are on the way.
Americans from coast to coast should start receiving their coronavirus relief checks in about three weeks, according to Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin.
The payments are now being processed following the House passing the historic $2 trillion stimulus Friday.
If you make up to $75,000 annually, your check will amount to $1,200. And for every child you have, you will get an extra $500. But if you want to make sure you will get your cut of the government's historic COVID-19 relief fund, they say you need to be up to date on your federal taxes.
That is because the money will be doled out by the Internal Revenue Service, which will use 2019 taxpayer forms to tabulate how much a person should receive and the address the check should be sent to.
But if you have not filed for 2019 yet — the IRS is giving everybody an extra 90 days — do not worry. The agency will just use the figures from your 2018 returns to tabulate your slice of the stimulus.
