More than three quarters of voters think the wealthiest Americans should pay higher taxes, according to the results of a new poll.
Key figures in the Politico/Morning Consult poll:
- 76 percent said top-earning Americans should pay more taxes.
- 45 percent are in favor of a plan similar to that of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., who proposed a 70 percent marginal tax rate on people earning more than $10 million. 32 percent are against it.
- 61 percent are in favor of something similar to the "wealth tax" proposal introduced by Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.
- 20 percent are against the plan, which would impose a 2 percent tax on people worth more than $50 million and a 3 percent tax on people worth more than $1 billion.
- 33 percent said the 2017 tax cuts law helped the economy, and 41 said it hurt the economy or made no difference.
