Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, speaking alongside Sens. Rick Scott, R-Fla., Ron Johnson, R-Wis., Mike Lee, R-Utah, and J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, stated it is time for Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., to go.

During a joint press conference held over the unveiling of the Senate's otherwise clandestine border bill, Cruz responded, when asked by a reporter if it was time for McConnell to go, "I think it is."

"Everyone here also supported a leadership challenge to Mitch McConnell in November," Cruz added. "I think a Republican leader should actually lead this conference and should advance the priorities of Republicans."

For months, negotiations on the bill, under the leadership of McConnell and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., were kept secret from the majority of Republicans. Members of the Republican-led House have called the bill dead on arrival.
