Prime Minister Theresa May says Britain, looking to target Russia after the poisoning of an ex-spy and his daughter, will reportedly introduce legislation similar to a U.S. law that allows freezing assets and banning entry to suspected human-rights abusers.
In her speech, laying out measures to hit back at Moscow over the poisoning of Sergei Skripal and his daughter, May described an act that would amend sanctions-related legislation currently being debated by Parliament, The Wall Street Journal reported.
The U.K. already has some powers to seize assets and ban the entry of those suspected of such abuses and wants to strengthen and extend them.
"In doing so, we will play our part in an international effort to punish those responsible for the sorts of abuses suffered by Sergei Magnitsky," she said, the Journal reported.
The 2012 Magnitsky Act was named after the Russian lawyer and whistleblower who died in prison in 2009.
