TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew on Friday thanked President-elect Donald Trump for a "commitment to work with us to find a solution that keeps TikTok available in the United States."

"This is a strong stand for the First Amendment and against arbitrary censorship," Chew added.

Trump is seeking to protect TikTok from a new law that gives parent company ByteDance until Sunday to sell the app to an American buyer or be banned in the U.S.

President Joe Biden, with just three days left in office, is being urged to give ByteDance more time to sell the app.

"We will put measures in place to keep TikTok from going dark," Rep. Mike Waltz, R-Fla., Trump's incoming national security adviser, told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" on Thursday.

The Supreme Court on Friday unanimously upheld the federal law banning TikTok, holding that the risk to national security posed by its ties to China overcomes concerns about limiting speech by the app or its 170 million users in the U.S.

Chew will attend Trump’s inauguration as the fate of the app hangs in the balance. Trump met with Chew on Dec. 16 at Mar-a-Lago.

At a press conference this week, Trump said his administration would "take a look at TikTok."

"I have a warm spot in my heart for TikTok, because I won youth by 34 points," he said. "There are those that say that TikTok has something to do with that. TikTok had an impact."
