Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ben Carson continue to battle for the number one spot in Iowa, the latest
CNN/ORC Poll released Friday shows, with the two in a virtual tie.
Trump's two-point numerical lead — with 25 percent versus Carson's 23 percent — is within the poll's four-point margin of error, putting the pair in a dead heat.
According to the poll:
- Donald Trump, 25 percent
- Dr. Ben Carson, 23 percent
- Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, 13 percent
- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, 11 percent
- Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 5 percent
- Carly Fiorina and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, 4 percent each
- New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 3 percent
- South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, and Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, 2 percent each
- 3 percent had no opinion
On issues related to the economy, immigration, foreign policy, social issues, and government programs, Iowa caucus participants trust Trump the most and 33 percent said he will win the election next fall.
However, 25 percent said that Carson understood and represented their values more than Trump, who got 20 percent.
Meanwhile, in the Democrats' race for the nomination, Hillary Clinton has a double-digit lead over Bernie Sanders.
According to Democratic caucus participants in Iowa, the poll shows:
- Hillary Clinton, 55 percent
- Bernie Sander, 37 percent
- Former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, 3 percent
- 3 percent had no opinion.
The poll was conducted Oct. 29-Nov. 4, surveying 548 likely Republican caucus goers with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points and 498 likely Democratic caucus goers with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5 percentage points.
