Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser expressed fears that President Donald Trump's Fourth of July celebration might "glorify military might" and said her city gains nothing from the celebration.

Bowser, a Democrat, made her remarks during a Tuesday interview with National Public Radio.

Asked what D.C. gets out of Trump's "Salute to America" celebration, Bowser replied: "I don't think we get anything out of it."

"I have some concerns," she said. "And I also have some concerns about a president not celebrating the military, but glorifying military might."

She added: "But I think kind of more deeply concerning to me is, what does it mean to have a president look to dictators as an example of how to celebrate your nation with a show of your military might?"

Trump has promised the celebration "will be the show of a lifetime."
