Donald Trump returned to Twitter Saturday to continue his attacks on Fox News' Megyn Kelly, calling her "crazy" and claiming credit for her show's success.
His renewed attack came just a day after the star's network
condemned the GOP presidential candidate for his "vitriolic attacks" and "sick obsession" with one its most prominent anchors.
In a pair of tweets posted Saturday, Trump claimed credit for the high ratings on Kelly's show, "The Kelly File," calling it "terrible" and her "average":
But he didn't stop with taking credit for Kelly's success, as he moved on from attacking her to claiming CNN's ratings have grown because of its coverage of his campaign:
Bret Baier, one of Kelly's Fox News co-anchors, told
The Daily Beast Friday that he wishes Trump would quit harassing Kelly, saying it "really upsets" him.
“I think the network has put out a number of statements in support of Megyn, and I have in the past as well,” Baier said. "It’s not at all comfortable," Baier told the website, but he thinks Fox will continue supporting his co-star.
“But at some point we’ll have to move on to just covering the race," he continued. "That is his [Trump's] choice, how he chooses to deal with it. It’s not how I would advise if I were advising him. But I’m not. I’m covering it. And I know Megyn is a pro and she handles all of the adversity like a champ.”
On Monday, Baier plans to conduct separate interviews in Washington with Trump's rivals, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, but not with Trump, for his "Special Report" show on Fox.
Initially on Monday, he was to co-moderate a Fox News GOP debate in Salt Lake City. However, the event ended up being cancelled because Trump backed out to speak at a pro-Israel event in Washington, and Kasich dropped out because Trump was not going to be there, leaving Cruz as the only one planning to attend.
Trump, meanwhile, will be in a town hall in Tucson, Arizona with Sean Hannity, which Baier called a "comfortable environment for him" where he'll do well. "He obviously does well in those events. His supporters love his style and Arizona clearly lines up for him with the immigration debate playing heavily in the state.”
Baier said he tried to get all three candidates to join in a round table discussion in his studio on Monday, as they will be in Washington to speak at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee conference, but Trump's spokesman, Corey Lewandowski, told Baier his candidate would be too busy to be there.
