Donald Trump was the huge winner of the third Republican presidential debate — triumphing by a wide margin over Dr. Ben Carson, a new Newsmax poll reveals.
And Carson, the famed pediatric neurosurgeon-turned-politician, was also topped by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas in the survey conducted following the Wednesday night GOP slugfest on CNBC.
The results:
Trump: 46 percent
Cruz: 20 percent
Carson: 16 percent
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida: 10 percent.
Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, former Hewlett Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, New Jersey Gov. Christie and Ohio Gov. John Kasich: less than 2 percent
Mike Huckabee: Less than 1 percent
Jeb Bush: Less than 1 percent
Carson’s relegation to third place came after he had soared to No. 1 in recent polls, displacing longtime front-runner Trump, who had led the field for months.

The poll’s jaw-dropper is undoubtedly the stunning collapse of support for Bush, who was once thought to be the GOP’s top candidate for the 2016 presidential race. He registered .31 percent in the Newsmax poll, by far the lowest of any candidate.
Bush’s numbers have slowly trickled away over the past few months, so much so that he’s had to make dramatic cuts in campaign staffing and other expenditures.
Newsmax readers have been giving Trump the lead in most polls conducted by the news outlet, with one of the polls being mentioned on "Meet the Press" in August, following the first GOP debate.
