Islamic State (ISIS) forces are moving toward an Iraqi base where hundreds of American troops are acting as advisers, CNN reports.

Though ISIS has been losing ground recently, it has made a show of strength in the past 24 hours against Kurdish forces in the north, correspondent Jim Sciutto reported Thursday on CNN's "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer," Suicide attacks and car bombings were among the weapons used, CNN reported.

Of immediate concern to Americans is action ISIS is taking near al-Baghdadi, a few miles from Ayn al-Asad Airbase, where 400 U.S. forces are based to assist in training Iraqi pilots in the fight against ISIS.

The airbase is the second largest in Iraq.

Illinois Rep. Adam Kinzinger, an Iraq War veteran, told CNN it was personally tragic for him to see ISIS making advances in areas where the war was won when he left in 2009.

Still, he said, the soldiers and Marines stationed there would have no trouble taking out any ISIS forces that tried to attack.

"They probably have great units guarding our Marines," said of the Iraqi forces. "They are very good at defending themselves. I'm sure there will be air cover."

Kinzinger called it a "scary situation," but said he isn't worried about the base being overrun, I don't wary about the base being overrun "because we're very good at what we do."
