The world's greatest cities will one day be underwater unless Americans begin to take climate change seriously, President Barack Obama says.

Breitbart reports the commander in chief, speaking to Democratic donors at a fundraiser on Manhattan's Upper West Side in New York City, said:

"When scientists tell us that the planet is getting warmer and we need to do something about it, the majority of people think that's a good idea, let's do something about that, because we don't want Manhattan to be underwater."

Obama also commented on the stormy presidential election, saying, "our politics has been a little screwed up lately."

He added that getting out the vote is particularly important, especially among young people and those with lower incomes, according to Newsday.

"We've got to get busy and we've got to organize and we've got to work," the president said.
