Warren Buffett said Monday that he “would certainly vote for” Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg, but jokingly added that “another billionaire supporting” the former New York City mayor might not help.
“I think I’m going to wait and see who gets the nomination,” Buffett said on Monday in an interview with CNBC. “Normally, I vote for Democrats. We will see what happens.”
“I would certainly vote for him,” Buffett said, referring to Bloomberg. “I don’t think another billionaire supporting him would be the best thing to announce.”
He added that he’s “going to wait and see who gets the nomination,” and that he would “certainly” prefer Bloomberg over Vermont independent Sen. Bernie Sanders “if given the choice.”
Buffett continued, "I don't think I want to get into handicapping the race, but I would say this in terms of Sanders: I actually agree with him in terms of certain things he would like to accomplish," he said, adding that “we ought to do better by the people who get left behind by our capitalist system” but "I don't think we should kill the capitol system in the process."
The Berkshire Hathaway chairman added that he’s “a Democrat, but not a card-carrying Democrat,” because he has supported Republicans, and that he has no interest in buying Bloomberg’s company, which the former mayor said he would sell should he become president.
