A White House official acknowledged that any upcoming talks with congressional Republicans on the debt ceiling will be difficult since there are "real differences" between the two parties.
The unnamed official's remarks came in a tweet by John Bresnahan, co-founder of Punchbowl News.
Bresnahan wrote: "Here's a White House official on stalemate in debt-limit talks: 'There are real differences between the two parties on budget issues and talks will be difficult. The President's team is working hard towards a reasonable bipartisan solution that can pass the House and the Senate.'"
Rep. Garret Graves, R-La., a top debt ceiling negotiator for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., said Friday it's time to "press pause" on talks as negotiations with the White House came to an abrupt standstill at the Capitol, The Associated Press reported.
Graves emerged from an hourlong session and said gaps remained between House Republicans and the Democrat administration.
He said negotiations have become "just unreasonable" and that it was unclear when talks will resume.
