The driver of a vehicle that reportedly collided into an exterior gate at the White House was taken into custody by the Secret Service.

"Shortly before 6p.m., a vehicle collided with an exterior gate on the White House complex," Anthony Guglielmi, a spokesman for the Secret Service, posted on X. "The driver has been taken into custody & we are investigating the cause & manner of the collision."

No indication of a threat was found inside the vehicle and no injuries were reported, WRC-TV in Washington, D.C., reported. Police are investigating the cause and manner of the crash.

President Joe Biden was not at the White House at the time of the incident; he was in South Carolina on a campaign trip. The incident caused traffic delays at 15th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

In a subsequent post on X, Guglielmi wrote: "UPDATE: The vehicle has been cleared by Washington DC Police Department and traffic closures will be lifted. Driver remains in custody and our investigation continues. Special thanks to @DCPoliceDept, @dcfireems for your unwavering support and partnership."
