Alan Dershowitz to Newsmax TV: Lockdown Protesters Don't Compare to Rosa Parks

People protesting the stay-at-home orders in various states around the country are not comparable to civil rights icon Rosa Parks, legal scholar Alan Dershowitz told Newsmax TV.

"Using the law-breaking as a first alternative is not really Rosa Parks," Dershowitz told Monday's "Greg Kelly Reports." "The big difference is Rosa Parks had no recourse to the courts of her state, no real recourse to the judiciary. Here we have the courts open. They may not hear you in person, but if you think for example, you have the right to go to church in your car, which I think you do, bring a lawsuit."

Protesters in states with stay-at-home orders in place have stormed their state capitals to express anger to their governors in hopes of having the orders lifted.

Dershowitz was responding to a claim where White House adviser Stephen Moore compared protesters around the country who are demonstrating against stay-at-home orders to Rosa Parks in The Washington Post.

"I listen to the public health people," Dershowitz said. "If they tell me that the shutdown is justified, I'm going to accept that. I'm going to follow it."

Dershowitz added: "Civil disobedience is only appropriate only after you've given up all of your legal remedies and they haven't exhausted their legal remedies."
