Rep. Ben Cline, R-Va., said Tuesday on Newsmax that whether they get it done in one "big, beautiful" reconciliation bill or two, congressional Republicans will deliver on President-elect Donald Trump's agenda when he takes office next week.
Cline, along with other members of the House Freedom Caucus, joined Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Florida, over the weekend to discuss legislative strategies and policy goals before the Jan. 20 inauguration. The caucus is reportedly in favor of a two-bill approach to advance Trump's legislative agenda, while Trump said he would like to see "one big, beautiful bill."
Cline told said on "Wake Up America" that the one-bill approach versus the two-bill approach is "one of those discussion items that is going to be worked out by the conference."
"We're all going to work together and whatever vision that we arrive at, whether it's one bill or two, we're going to be delivering on the president's agenda to secure our border, to make sure that we get rid of the wokeism in the federal bureaucracy, get rid of the lawfare in our Department of Justice," Cline said.
"Elon Musk joined us for dinner and so that was a nice treat to get to hear his vision as well, for what he's going to be tackling with DOGE [Department of Government Efficiency]."
Conservative members of Congress "all have goals," Cline said, but, as members of the House Freedom Caucus, "we want to restore fiscal responsibility to this country."
"As we tackle reconciliation, we're reminded that some tax cuts may help spur economic growth, while others may not," Cline said. "It's important to remember what we need to be focused on, which is the American people, getting inflation down to manageable levels, creating American jobs here in this country, moving more manufacturing back to the United States.
"It's all about the American people. That's what got Trump elected and that's the agenda that we're going to be implementing through the reconciliation bill. So, restoring fiscal responsibility is going to be a big part of that."
Cline said the weekend trip to Mar-a-Lago gave House members a chance to interact with Musk, who is poised to lead DOGE, along with tech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
"It's always exciting to be in a conversation with Elon Musk," Cline said. "His brain works at levels that are far above any of mine or any of my colleagues. … The bureaucracy is huge. It's going to take someone like Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to actually tackle all of the bureaucracy, that is going to push back."
