Claims from the Department of Justice that it treats everyone equally will be put to the test when it's presented with contempt of Congress charges sought against Hunter Biden for refusing to be questioned during a closed-door deposition this past week, Rep. Ben Cline said on Newsmax Saturday.

"Chairman Jim Jordan [Judiciary] and Chairman James Comer [Oversight] have said they're pursuing contempt charges right now, and so we anticipate those being approved and sent to the Justice Department immediately," the Virginia Republican said on Newsmax's "Saturday Agenda."

"The Justice Department likes to push back when we say there are two different systems of justice that it operates under," Cline added. "They say 'Oh, no, that's not the case. We treat everybody equally."

The contempt claims though, will probe a test, as the president's son has "thumbed his nose at Congress," he said. "He was scheduled to give a closed-door deposition. We were sitting in the room to do the deposition, when we saw his press conference, we saw him get in the car and drive away."

Still, Cline said Republicans should thank Biden for "giving us the unanimous Republican vote for the impeachment inquiry," said Cline. "You know, that was bound to happen anyway. It just gave it that little push forward. We're going to be getting to the bottom of what has happened with Hunter Biden and follow the facts where they lead on the Judiciary Committee."

Meanwhile, even though the House has formalized the impeachment inquiry against President Joe Biden, he'll continue to resist Republicans' requests for his bank records and requests for information about money that flowed from foreign interests through his son and his brother James, said Cline.

"When they refuse to comply, we're going to be taking them to court … it's just that we have arguably had those powers since Kevin McCarthy established the impeachment inquiry back in early fall, and we just now have that vote to back us up in court," he added.

There will be others with valuable information to share about Biden's alleged involvement in his son's businesses, said Cline.

"That information will be forthcoming, whether voluntarily or as required by the courts, and that's why we took that vote," said Cline. "We're going to follow the facts and we don't want it to go too far down the road into an election year because we don't want politics to interfere with what is a really good growing scandal of epic proportions."

Further, legal issues are "unfolding as we speak, so the sooner we can get those documents and follow the facts appropriately, the better," he concluded.
